Competition Briefs - 100
This was the first module brief for the final year on the BA Hons Graphic Design degree course based on an ISTD competition.
The brief involved choosing between the theme of "Imbalance" and "100"and developing a visual response to communicating this subject.
For me I was immediately drawn to the "100" theme due to the wide range of subject matter it could possibly relate to - from numerology, science, mathematics to history etc
After researching the possible routes surrounding the number 100 I decided to create some form of visual entertainment/educational design for use on public transport systems that explores all the random facts of the number 100 for people to read whilst waiting.
I wanted the design to be bright and vibrant and to catch the attention of commuters and create a talking point or just to give inspiration at a moment in time when people are often kept stationary in a certain place on a daily basis.
The posters are in a series and feature random facts of the number 100 in different subjects. These could then be changed on a regular basis.
The design itself features a wheel of information that involves moving the eye around the layout to read the different facts and a rainbow of bright colours.
I utilised drop shadows on the titles to add depth and clarity and filled the background with an opaque typography overlay that fades out.
I am happy with this first module result and think it would be a cool, quirky and different graphic to view on public transport or areas of high degrees of waiting. People will actually discover new facts and hopefully learn something without realising it. It is a fun typographic piece.
The images below show my final design, in-situ placement as posters, initial drafts and experimentation and my research maps/mood boards.
